Killeagh Cottage, Crossdrum, Oldcastle, Co Meath: 475,000 - Sensitively restored jewel for a good life
Caroline Allen

SITUATED in old parkland near the town of Oldcastle which is about 60 miles from Dublin, the restored Killeagh Cottage in Crossdrum combines an attractive setting with a characterful and stylish interior.

The four-bed Parnell cottage dates back over 200 years.

The property has been extended to enjoy the views over the gardens. It has also been fully refurbished: rewired, replumbed, reroofed with Blue Bangor slates, and with copper gutters and a new central heating system installed.

Glazed on three sides, the sun room provides plenty of light and an aspect of the mature gardens. Features include timber flooring, downlights, double French doors to the garden and double doors into the kitchen.

The beating heart of the house, the kitchen includes a handmade tiled floor and fivedoor oil-fired Aga surrounded by natural brick from Florence Court, which heats the water.

Solid maple units incorporate contemporary fittings and the central island unit has a solid beech worktop. There is also a Belfast sink and four-plate electric hob with oven/grill surrounded by a polished granite worktop and drawers, overhead plate rack and cupboards.

The living room has timber flooring, a decorative beam and natural brick fireplace with large wood-burning stove, fitted bookshelves and stairs leading to the first floor.

The tiled upstairs bathroom includes a large bath and Heritage fittings. All four bedrooms have Velux windows, one also has fitted sliding wardrobes. Spanning 160sq m (1,700sq ft), the property features handmade interior doors with forged iron handles.

The site is in landscaped gardens with paths through lawns with laburnum, wisteria, beech and larch trees. A paved patio facilitates al fresco dining and there is also a lofted detached garage with power and an electric door.

The area is popular with equestrian enthusiasts and the nearby Lough Ramor and Lough Sheelin are renowned for fishing and boating.

Loughcrew estate and gardens are just up the road.

Schools, pubs and shops are within a few minutes, with Kells and Cavan 19 miles away and Navan 28 miles.
