COLESLAW isn't easy to get right. You want your vegetables crispy and crunchy and a tasty mayonnaise makes all the difference. However, some brands are better than others. . .Aldi's Edendale Foods Luxury Coleslaw /0.99/400g Good cabbage pieces, nice crisp bite and a decent tangy mayonnaise.
Pretty good for this giveaway price.
**** Marks & Spencer Deli style Coleslaw /1.49/300g Extra long shreds of cabbage and plenty of carrot give this an appealing homemade look. It's nicely crunchy and the chives work well.
A fine product.
*** Superquinn Fresh Coleslaw 500g The vegetables are cut into very small pieces which we didn't like.
Quite a bland mayonnaise, and overall there's not much flavour.
No stars Tesco Coleslaw 250g This basic coleslaw is drowning in mayonnaise and the flavour is unremarkable.
Not recommended.

BOOK OF THE WEEK
It may seem almost cruel to suggest a book about cooking and eating in the open given the cataclysmic downpours of the last few days. Then again, there's never anything predictable about Irish weather, so you could be complaining about the sweltering heat as you read this.
Lindy Wildsmith's 'Eating Outdoors' bursts with al fresco suggestions from barbecue know-how to memorable picnics. The drinks section especially (including the wonderful melon and ginger refresher) is superb
