TOMMY MURPHY CUP, ROUND ONE LONDON 4-11 ANTRIM 1-10
ANTRIM advanced to the semi-final of the Tommy Murphy after a deserved 10-point victory over a plucky London side at sunny Ruislip yesterday. However even the most partisan Glensman follower will agree that they were somewhat flattered by their final margin of victory after a heroic display fro the hosts.
Two first half goals from Conor McGourty provided the perfect platform for the visitors in their latest victory which was enough to give them a half-time lead of 2-4 to 0-4.
Although playing against the wind in the opening half London could still consider themselves most unlucky to be that much in arrears, especially given that Antrim keeper Sean McGreevey had rescued his county with stunning saves from Dara Kinneavey and Chris Donnellan in the opening quarter.
However London refused to be capitulate and amazingly within two minutes of the restart they were within two points of Antrim, Chris Donnellan taking advantage of a break to raise a green flag.
Antrim responded but still only led 2-8 to 1-7 with nine minutes remaining and it was still anybody's game until McGourty completed his hattrick to end London's brave resistance.
