THE Health Service Executive (HSE) is to conduct an inquiry into how a childcare specialist was allowed to remain in his academic post two years after he was convicted of sex offences.
Dr Niall McElwee resigned last week from his post at the Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT).
"Following recent claims and statements regarding the extent of knowledge regarding the Dr Niall McElwee incident, the Health Services Executive will conduct an inquiry into the facts of this matter without delay, " according to a HSE statement.
