TODAY FM DJ Tom Dunne has been voted "the voice of Irish music" and "most respected face of Ireland's music industry" in a recent poll by music fans.
Dunne came out tops with 57% of the poll, while RTE's Dave Fanning came in second with 28% of votes. The poll was carried out by 3 Ireland, the mobile telecommunications network. To celebrate the first birthday of its mobile TV show The Hive, 3 took to the streets to carry out its poll.
Today FM's Ian Dempsey was deemed "the most popular mainstream jock" and a surprise result showed concert promoter Denis Desmond as the choice for the "most respected face of Ireland's music industry."
New entrants in the Irish music industry also made an appearance in the poll, with Phantom FM's Edel Coffey and Bubble Hits presenter Glenda Gilson cited as Ireland's "promising music presenting talent." Other key influencers voted for included Bono, Ryan Tubridy, Donal Dineen, Louis Walsh, Westlife and Alison Curtis.
3's fortnightly show, The Hive, is fronted by Dunne and is available for free by customers on the mobile network.
Since it hit the mobile airways, The Hive has featured 26 live acts. Republic of Loose kicked things off a year ago, followed by acts like the Delorentos, Baldly Drawn Boy and The Divine Comedy. More recent performances include Damien Dempsey, fresh from his Glastonbury appearance.
The mobile TV show also provides gig listings and album reviews by Dunne.
