Woman and infant drowned after suicide
Ali Bracken

A SMALL town in north Cork was last night coming to terms with the suicide of a local woman who drowned along with her eight-month-old son after she entered the river Araglin in Kilworth, 8km north of Fermoy.

The bodies of a 33-year-old woman, named locally as Nodlaig Kenneally, and her baby boy Tadhg, were recovered from the river after the alarm was raised by two local teenagers who made the discovery at about 11.30am yesterday. The dead woman had just returned to Ireland from living abroad.

Garda sources confirmed that they are investigating a case of suicide-infanticide and are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

Postmortem examinations were being carried out yesterday at Cork University Hospital. Gardai at Fermoy are investigating.
