SINGLE STRIKE PUTS CORK OUT OF EUROPE

Cork City's InterToto Cup ambitions ended at the second round stage yesterday after Damien Richardson's side lost 1-0 to Hammarby in Stockholm. Petter Andersson's second-half goal gave the Swedish outfit the spoils on the night and secured a 2-1 aggregate victory after they had drawn 1-1 in the first leg at Turner's Cross last week. Brazilian striker Paulinho had been a menace in the first half with a header that landed on the roof of the net and a shot against Michael Devine's right post in the 34th minute. The winning goal came in the 53rd minute Erkan Zengin capitalised on a mix-up between Gareth Farrelly and Roy O'Donovan to set up Andersson, who blasted home. City should have equalised six minutes later but Sean Kelly screwed his header wide at the back post following a Liam Kearney corner.
