DURKAN Estates, sistercompany of Durkan New Homes, has just got the goahead to transform the Royal Military Academy (RMA) in Woolwich, into a 177m (120m) urban village comprising 334 newly-built and converted homes.
Known as London's Sandhurst, the RMA is one of the world's most historic military colleges.
Set on a 21-acre site, The Academy will incorporate a cricket green, landscaped grounds, specially-commissioned sculptures, and parking and leisure facilities, along with a mix of upmarket apartments and townhouses.
Founded by King George II in 1741, the RMA served as the British army military academy for the training of commissioned officers until it closed in 1939.
By 1947 the military academy had transferred to new facilities at RMA Sandhurst.
At the centre of the new development, Durkan Estates will convert the magnificent college buildings into loftstyle apartments.
On offer in this scheme will be a mix of one, two, three, four and five-bed homes.
