COME on, admit it. Its already midJuly and how many of you have tried out some of the harder-to-wear summer trends such as denim shorts, maxi dresses, play suits and broderie anglaisef in other words all the stuff that came in with great fanfare in early May and that has been sitting languishing on the back of sales-rails (and some of our wardrobes) since then.
In order to kick-start you out of your fashion safety-zone (jeans and summer tops are SO summer '03), we asked an editor, a model and a stylist how they are embracing the high street's trickier looks.
Roxanne Parker, 27, is a fashion stylist.
She bought her broderie anglaise dress from Penneys for 17 at the beginning of the season. "On hot days it looks great with tan-coloured wedges and statement bag, and on cold days I wear it with with a jacket, bare legs and boots, " she says. "I also layer it with a pretty vintage-looking see-through floral dress."
Eimear nic an Bhaird, 26 is a self-confessed fashion-aholic and deputy editor of House and Homemagazine. She bought her denim shorts from Abercrombie + Finch in New York for $40.
"I wear them everywhere . . . by night with gold flats and during the day with a cute scoop neck tee-shirt. On the beach I go a little more floaty and team them with a kaftan."
Amy Ronning, 24, is a Dublin and Milanbased model. She has a white cotton playsuit from Zara ( 30) and a black stretchy maxi dress from A/Wear ( 35) and finds both remarkably wearable: "During the day I wear them with flip flops and little cardigans and at night I dress them up with a leather-weave brown belt and wedges. The maxi dress is particularly handy for shows as you can throw it on and off."
If they can do it, you can do it too. Now get out there and strut your summer stuff.
