THIS summer's essential readings include two by former inhabitants of 1990s' Britpop-land.
A Bit of A Blur sees Blur's bassist-turned-cheesemaker Alex James recount his lost years with the band, notable for the bedpost notches, copious champagne consumption and lots and lots of drugs. But the more cautionary tale is that of Pearl Lowe, partner of Supergrass's Danny Goffey and once the reigning queen of the Primrose Hill set.
While appearing to have it all on the surface . . . money, relative fame, and three kids . . . her life was a mess and she has some great tales to tell, such as discovering that the father of her 18-year-old daughter Daisy (pictured here) was the result of one night with Gwen Stefani's husband, Gavin Rossdale. Unfortunately, she doesn't go into enough details about the allegations that she and Goffey had a swapping session with Jude Law and Sadie Frost. Now Lowe has dumped her old mates and is keeping it clean and serene in a country village and has penned this autobiography to prove that, as its title suggests, All that Glitters isn't as bright as it seems.
