THE jury in the Joe O'Reilly murder trial was continuing its deliberations last night. The nine men and two women were earlier told by trial judge Barry White that they could return a 10-to-1 majority decision if they could not agree a unanimous verdict.
White also told them there was "no restriction" on the time they could take to reach a verdict and reminded them that they must stay together at all times, including during smoking breaks and meal times.
Unlike on Friday, when the jury members asked to hear a number of sections of the evidence in the fourweek trial, no such requests were made yesterday. They went to the jury room to begin their deliberations at 10.30am and broke for lunch at 1.15pm. They recommenced their deliberations at 2.15pm and then took a smoking break mid-afternoon. They were still locked in discussions at teatime last night.
