Ireland pops back into the UK, but just for a quick Thursday lunch

IRELAND has at last been united, but the bad news for republicans is that it happened under British rule.

The development occurred at lunchtime last Thursday when the BBC weather website carried the headline "Dublin, UK", along with an equally gloomy forecast for the next five days.

The BBC eventually realised that it had returned the capital to its pre-1922 status. By Thursday evening, the Republic had been redeclared and "Dublin, Ireland" once more ensconced on the BBC weather website.
