ASK THE EXPERT ANNE KENNEDY, WWW.GREATFOOD.IE
Where did you develop your love of food?
My mother's idea of food was a bit post-war. She made brilliant Cornish pasties but everything else was overcooked.
She put the cabbage on at 11am in time for lunch at one. So we spent our pocket money on garlic and good chocolate and field mushrooms so we could eat something tasty.
Why did you set up Greatfood. ie?
There wasn't any Irish website where you could find everything from a recipe to a food tip to a story about an Irish food producer. Now we cover everything to do with Irish food, from how to make and cook pasta to where to find a good rasher to how to diet sensibly (we advise you to eat better food but less of it! ).
Do the Irish have a food culture?
We have a food-experience culture. We associate food with memories and stories. When people talk about Irish stew, they don't talk about how good a piece of meat they used.
They tell you where they ate it, who was there, when they ate it. Perhaps we see food as part of our universal story of life, rather than as a distinct cuisine.
