Woman injured in shooting
A WOMAN was injured in Limerick yesterday when gunmen opened fire with a shotgun at a house in the early hours.
A woman in the house at Georgian Villas, Old Cork Road received a minor leg injury and was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital. Two men dressed in black and wearing balaclavas were seen running from the scene. A man in the house was also taken to hospital suffering from shock.
O'Loan's office cleared of leaks
NORTHERN Ireland's police ombudsman's office has been cleared of leaking confidential information to the media.
Detectives dismissed claims by the Retired Police Officers' Association that secret details of Nuala O'Loan's report on collusion into the loyalist murder of Raymond McCord Jnr, 22, in north Belfast in 1997 were leaked before publication. Police launched an inquiry after receiving a complaint that the Official Secrets Act and the Police Act had been broken.
Kilkenny society celebrations
THE Kilkenny Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KSPCA) will hold its 125th anniversary celebration at Langton's Hotel, Kilkenny, next Thursday at 7pm. The evening aims to increase awareness of animal welfare issues as Kilkenny has a poor record of unwanted dogs being put down, according to the association.
Croagh Patrick weather warning
THE archbishop of Tuam, Michael Neary, will lead today's pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick and organisers and Mayo Mountain Rescue are urging the 20,000 people expected for Reek Sunday that heavy rain and dangerous underfoot conditions are forecast. Pilgrims are urged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
