INFORMATION security giant Symantec reported second quarter profits slumped 5.3% last week.
The company, which employs around 850 people in Ireland, said a $19m restructuring charge arising from job cuts earlier this year had an impact on its financial results. The firm shed around 30 jobs in Ireland and around 800 worldwide from a starting base of 1,700.
Quarterly income fell to $95.2m compared to $100.5m last year, although sales rose 11% year-on-year to $1.42bn.
This beat analysts' expectations of $1.32bn, with a third of the Californian company's sales coming from the European, Middle East and Africa regions. The Cupertino-based company has been operating in Ireland for 16 years.
The multinational estimates its third quarter revenue will come in between $1.35bn and $1.38bn.
Last week, Symantec announced a partnership with virtualisation firm XenSource. to create an integrated server and storage virtualisation solution.
XenSource entered the Irish market in July when it struck deals with five Irish resellers. The visualisation firm is based in Palo Alto, California and is backed by a number of venture capital firms.
