INTEL chairman Craig Barrett (far left) and Shelbourne Development boss Garrett Kelleher (second right) were honoured last Thursday at an inaugural US-Ireland awards luncheon attracting around 300 at the New York Athletic Club, recognising the contribution of US corporate leaders to Ireland and Irish business achievements in the US. 'Business & Finance' magazine publisher Ian Hyland (far right), the awards' organiser, also launched 'Most Influential', a new publication aimed at the Irish American corporate market. On hand was New York mayor Michael Bloomberg (second left), who sources at the event said was closer than ever to a decision on whether to run for president as an independent. "The ties between Ireland and New York City have always been strong, " Bloomberg told guests. "Irish labourers built our city from the ground up and today, Irish businesses and investment are a big part of our city's economy. There are hundreds of Irish companies in the US . . . at least 40 of them in New York.
And there are just as many New York companies doing business over in Ireland." Intel Ireland was founded in 1989 and now employs some 5,500 people here. Shelbourne Development is currently building the world's tallest residential building, the 2,000-ft-tall Chicago Spire.
