IT'S run for 18 seasons with more than 400 episodes and now it moves to the big screen. So here are a few bits of Simpsons trivia to throw into the inevitable 'Did you see The Simpsons Movie?' conversations likely to take place in the coming week. . .
According to Matt Groening, Bart's middle name is Jo-Jo, not Jebediah as stated previously. Milhouse's is Mussolini. Homer's middle initial, J, stands for Jay.
Bart's first words were "Ay caramba!", Lisa's first word was "Bart" and Maggie's was "Daddy" . . . spoken by Elizabeth Taylor, who has appeared on the show twice but only said a total of eight words. The show holds the record for most guest appearances but U2's cameo in 'Trash of the Titans' was most notorious. It was the 200th Emmy award-winning episode and saw Homer running for office on a rubbish ticket, with the band singing a campaign song parodying 'The Candy Man' . . . 'The Garbageman Can'. U2 requested a guest slot on the show which featured the band and manager Paul McGuinness.
It takes as long as nine months to complete the animation process for each episode but there have been a few goofs. In one episode, Apu's octuplets are older than Maggie, yet Maggie has been in the show longer than Apu. Moe's hair started out as black in the first season, changing over time to grey-blue.
Springfield Elementary School is yellow in some episodes and white in others, while the twins, who are supposed to be white, are sommetimes yellow. Louis, Bart's black friend, is yellow in one shot, while Fat Tony changes his name from episode to episode . . .
though this could be intentional because he's in the mafia. But Bart's hair always has nine points.
In the episode 'Behind the Scenes', the narrator announces "this Kentuckian family" so with this information, Springfield is generally thought to be in Kentucky. However, the narrator was indicating that the family originally came from Kentucky . . . but that is not where they live currently. Springfield is said to be 678 miles from Mexico city and 2,653 miles away from Orlando, Florida . . . both of which cannot be true.
Cletus and Brandine's children are named: Tiffany, Heather, Cody, Dylan, Dermot, Jordan, Taylor Brittany, Wesley, Rumer, Scout, Cassidy, Zoe, Chloe, Max, Hunder, Kendall, Caitlin, Noah, Sasha, Morgan, Kyra, Ian, Lauren, Q-Bert, Phil, Rubella and Condoleezza Cory McDowell Marie . . . and Crystal Meth.
Bart is aged between nine and 11, has a locker combination of 36 24 36 and bares his ass almost weekly, whether doing an impression of Richard 'I am not a butt' Nixon, mooning the nation of Australia or having a slide of his rear displayed at a town meeting, disguised as a map of Springfield.
The blackboard openings to every episode feature Bart writing his lines. Here are three to remember:
"I won't not use no double negatives"; "I will not speculate on how hot teacher used to be"; "I saw nothing unusual in the teacher's lounge."
The couch gag never fails to get a laugh and Homer usually comes off worst, like when everyone lands on the couch via parachute except Homer, whose chute fails to open; or when he puts a coin in the 'Vend-ACouch' and bangs the back wall and the couch falls on him; or when everyone is part of a giant game of Whack-A-Mole and Homer gets whacked Three pieces of Homer wisdom: "Marge, it takes two to lie. One to lie and one to listen"; "If something's hard to do then it's not worth doing"; "Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try."
