AS Peugeot prepares to launch its new 308 hatchback at Frankfurt next month the company gives a glimpse into the future with images of the 308 RC Z Concept Car.
It is powered by a 1.6 218 bhp petrol engine which has a maxium torque output of 280 Nm from low engine speeds. This can temporarily be increased to 300 Nm due to the over-boost function. The 0-100 km sprint takes seven seconds and the maximum speed is 235 km/h.
The 2+2 Coupe has lots of lightweight components and the streamlined design gives good aerodynamics and low CO2 emissions . . . only 160g/km of CO2.
The concept is expected to become a future sports version of the 308. It is 4276 mm long, the same as the 308 hatchback, is 25 mm wider and has a reduced height of 1320mm.
The basic structure is taken from the 308 but it gets a sportier lower front panel with single-air intake, a chrome grille and 19" alloy wheels. The curved shape of the roof panel and rear window create a downforce which eliminates the need for a rear spoiler. The two centrallymounted rear exhaust pipes are integrated into the wraparound rear bumper lower panel. Inside, the dash gets an upmarket look with lots of leather and chrome.
Up front are bucket seats and in the rear two folding seats.
The front suspension and rear suspensions have been specially modified to take account of the wider vehicle track and tyres.
The front and rear tracks have been increased by 59 mm compared to the hatchback.
