CELEBRITY PSYCHE

BRIAN Ormond, the Charity You're A Star presenter who blogger Nat King Coleslaw described as "Pat Kenny shrunk in the wash", is just one in a long line of dodgy Irish TV presenters.

Now Ormond has secured the rather large gig, we can expect a few more projects to be built around his Ken doll-like pose and delivery.

It could be argued that even his asexual vacuous take on presenting is slightly better than his predecessor Keith Duffy, who displayed the inability to even read an autocue, never mind deliver his lines in any kind of vaguely competent manner.

And the less said about TV3's disaster The Box the better.

His faux earnestness is reminiscent of Daniel O'Donnell's brief stint as a presenter . . . the period of his career which was the true inspiration for Father Ted's Eoin McLove.

Like Ormond, Ray Shah has come from reality TV . . .

God only knows why City Channel thought by draping himself drunkenly in a tricolor and falling around a Jacuzzi in Big Brother gave him the qualifications to appear on telly. Shah does an accurate impression of a cue ball . . . bald, devoid of animation and intellect.

Constantly missing the point, he hopes an inane grin will make up for his utter idiocy.

Then there's the daddy of woodenness, Pat Kenny himself . . . bastion of cringe, chief pharmacist of the robotic bore juice with which RTE seem to spike their presenters' coffee. His lame sense of humour and difficulty engaging with guests who are even 1% fun, and his determination to get his point across more than whoever should be making it has not prevented him becoming the cornerstone of RTE.

Despite seeing himself as quite the ladies man, on screen, Patrick Kielty is largely an abrasive charisma vacuum.

Thankfully his 'comedy' doesn't greet us on screen too much any more as he has long slipped from his previous stance on the podium of flavour du jour.

His appearances hosting C-list award shows have dried up too, since he seemed to get on the mean side of funny once too often.
