A lot of tapas bars in Ireland are just pretending to be tapas bars. Sure chuck out a few patatas bravas with some mayonnaise and a manky mojito and they'll be grand, the tapas moguls must say. Not so for Pintxo, a new joint in Temple Bar in Dublin and a sister to the already successful Port House. Genuine Basque treats . . .we like the gildas (pickled chillies with anchovies and olives), flamenquines cordobeses (fillets of beef stuffed with ham and piquillo pepper) and the pulpo a la gallega (octopus with sea salt, olive oil and pimento) . . . thankfully come in generous servings, so you don't have to order 14 things on the menu to make sure you feel like you've had a half decent meal. A great wine and port list and Dibar, our new favourite coffee brand, complete the yummy experience. But, perhaps best of all are the most decadent bathrooms in the country, with black mirrors, red leather armchairs doubling as toilets and dramatic lighting. Unfortunately, they don't take bookings. So get there before the crowds take it over.
