Appeal for Raonaid case

GARDAI yesterday reissued an appeal for help in solving the eight-yearold case of Raonaid Murray, the Dublin girl who was stabbed to death near her home in Dun Laoghaire on 3 September 1999. The last possible sighting of the 17year-old was with a man a few years older than her, who has never been identified. Gardai said they have interviewed thousands of people in relation to the case.

Duo walk 92 miles for charity TWO people yesterday began a 92-mile walk across Ireland to highlight the plight of thousands of homeless people around the country. Joan McNevin and Paddy Pender set out on their walk from Dublin to Roscommon with no money, food, water or planned shelter. They plan to raise money for the Capuchin Day Centre for homeless people in Dublin and will arrive back in the capital on Wednesday.

One dead after pile-up in North

A MIDDLE-AGED man was killed and several others injured in a threecar pile-up in Northern Ireland. The 57-year-old died yesterday and two others were being treated in hospital for serious injuries after three cars collided near Garvagh, Co Derry, on Friday night.

Police at Coleraine have appealed for witnesses.

Coastguard rescues couple

A COUPLE whose catamaran got into difficulty near rocks at Dingle were rescued by the emergency services on Friday night. A short time later, a fisherman was airlifted from a vessel off the coast of Cork. It is understood he badly injured his arm on board a ship and he was yesterday being treated at Cork University Hospital.

Body recovered from River Liffey

THE body of a man in his 50s was recovered from the River Liffey in Dublin late on Friday night. The discovery was made at around 11pm at O'Connell Bridge on the Eden Quay side of the river. The body was removed to St James's Hospital for a post-mortem but gardai said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

Tiger kidnapping in Belfast

A COUPLE and their 16month-old grandchild in Belfast were taken hostage overnight by armed raiders trying to extort money. They were released unharmed on Friday and no money was handed over. Police said the masked men ordered the woman to withdraw cash from her post office employer.
