CURRAGH PREVIEW
THE Grade 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes is the centrepiece of this afternoon's meeting at the Curragh and Saoirse Abu gets the vote to round off a very successful week for her trainer Jim Bolger by taking the first prize of just over 170,000.
The daughter of Mr Greeley already has a Group 1 victory to her credit, having run out the shock 25/1 winner of the Phoenix Stakes at the expense of Aidan O'Brien's Coventry Stakes scorer Henrythenavigator over this course three weeks ago.
First time blinkers did the trick that day and she beat the hotpot by a length on very testing ground. The underfoot conditions she will encounter today will be a lot faster but that is not expected to be a problem for Kevin Manning's mount, who gives every indication that the extra furlong of the Moyglare will be within her reach.
The sole English challenger Albabilia may pose the biggest danger to Saoirse Abu's chances of success.
This race has been her target for some time and her trainer Clive Brittain has described the supplementary entry as being possibly the best filly he has trained since Sayyedati.
Albabilia was successful in a Group 3 contest over seven furlongs at Newmarket last month and is clearly progressing the right way. She is sure to play a leading role here, as will Kieren Fallon's mount Listen, who looked to be an unlucky loser of the Debutante Stakes in which she was just touched off by Campfire Glow.
The Dermot Weld-trained Mad About You carries the hopes of the sponsors and she may represent the best each-way value. She started her campaign with success in a 7f maiden at Leopardstown, where she accounted for the subsequent winner Solas Na Greine, who renews rivalry here, by a length and then did little wrong in chasing home Triskel in the Silver Flash Stakes next time out.
Mad About You has been off the track for six weeks but nevertheless appeals as the type to improve on the already promising form she has shown to date.
Her stable-mate Absolute Image may be worth an investment in the 24 runner Sporting Index EBF Irish Cambridgeshire, along with Satu, King Of Tory, Settigano and Crooked Throw.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained Great Barrier Reef was entered for both the Mencap EBF Maiden and the Go And Go Round Tower Stakes and it is surely significant that he takes his chance in the Group 3 event.
Racing also takes place at Killarney where the best bet may be Adrian Maguire's Oscar Night who makes his chasing debut under Paul Carberry in the Jack Bennett Beginners Chase.
