KERRY
By Ewan MacKenna

1 DIARMUID MURPHY
7.5 out of 10 Club Dingle Age 32 Occupation Insurance clerical officer Hasn't the kick-out of Stephen Cluxton nor the shot-stopping ability of James Reilly. Couldn't have done much with the two goals that have got past him so far, but with a weak defensive spine in front of him, is he capable off pulling off the big saves?

Needs to Give Darragh O Se the mid"eld advantage with his kickouts

2 MARCOSE
8.5 Club An Ghaeltacht Age 27 Occupation Teacher Alan Brogan may have kicked three points in the semi-final but there is not no doubt who got the better of their duel. Kerry's best back this season will probably pick up James Masters and hope to do what he's done to everyone else that has faced him.

Needs to Have a performance like he did in the semi-final

3 TOM O'SULLIVAN
8 Club Rathmore Age 28 Occupation Garda Questions marks here and you can be sure Billy Morgan has run a highlighter over his name. Wasn't sure what to do with Michael Cussen in the Munster "nal as Cork appeared to have found their own Kieran Donaghy for 35 minutes this summer.

Needs to Stay on the edge of the square when Cussen inevitably moves further out the field and hope Cork don't play route one

4 PADRAIG REIDY
7.5 Club Scartaglin Age 20 Occupation Sales rep Ciaran Hanratty took him for a penalty in the All Ireland quarter-final, and although he did do a job on Mark Vaughan the last day, Vaughan is not a quality forward from open play.

Needs to If he insists on playing from the front he mustn't get caught

5 TOMAS O SE
8.5 Club An Ghaeltacht Age 29 Occupation Teacher Has come back brilliantly from all the criticism of last season and has had an outstanding campaign. Scored in three of his four outings to date but Kevin McMahon will prove a handful as he did in the Munster final and he'll have to focus on his defensive duties.

Needs to Avoid giving away easy frees when McMahon runs at him

6 AIDAN O'MAHONY
8 Club Rathmore Age 27 Occupation Garda A better wing-back than he is a number six and can give away too many frees when he is attacked directly. Man of the Match from the wing in last year's "nal but Kerry's problems postMoynihan leaves him as the best man to fill a gap.

Needs to Hold Pearse O'Neill to a point just as he did in the Munster "nal

7 KILLIAN YOUNG
7.5 Club Renard Age 20 Occupation Bank official Like the other newcomer to this year's Kerry side . . . Padraig Reidy . . . has done little wrong bar a mistake that cost them a goal. His mistake came against Cork in the Munster "nal when a missed tackle almost helped today's challengers to another provincial title.

Needs to Avoid going forward and hold Cork's attack on the left wing

8 DARRAGH O SE
8.5 Club An Ghaeltacht Age 32 Occupation Auctioneer Thirteen seasons of intercounty football later, and "nally we worry about him going into a big game. There's the injury, there's Nicholas Murphy and there's a huge reliance given the lack of a top-quality midfield partner.

Needs to Realise it's not two years ago and try to break the ball

9 SEAMUS SCANLON
7 Club Currow Age 25 Occupation Fitter Did well against Dublin in O Se's absence but his match up with Derek Kavanagh is another one Cork will fancy getting the better out of. Playing on a stage where he can "nally prove himself of suf"cient standard to line out in a Kerry mid"eld, mind you that same stage is one that can prove he's not up to it.

Needs to Improve his passing and do anything but shoot for points

10 PAUL GALVIN
8.5 Club Finuge Age 27 Occupation Teacher Firstly, he may not be marked by O'Leary. Secondly, it's impossible to see him losing it as he has done on a couple of occasions this season. A class footballer, good off either side and you feel that after all the controversy and dislike out there, he'll revel in it.

Needs to Let his football do all of the talking

11DECLAN O'SULLIVAN (capt)
9 Club Dromid Pearses Age 23 Occupation Supermarket manager Going into an All Ireland final without the controversy that surrounded last season's showpiece will allow him to show just what a brilliant footballer he is. Capable of kicking great scores and delivering the perfect ball. Will orchestrate the Kerry attack and probably lift Sam Maguire on his own this year.

Needs to Give Gooch plenty of ball when not in a scoring position himself

12 EOIN BROSNAN
8 Club Dr Crokes Age 27 Occupation Solicitor Started the year on fire in Waterford but has drifted out of too many games. If Cork aren't tight, he'll pop up closer to goal and is always a huge threat when there's a chance of a three-pointer.

Needs to Up his average which has been just 1.3 points per game since the opening game of the championship

13 COLM COOPER
9.5 Club Dr Crokes Age 24 Occupation Bank Official In the semi-final Kerry just needed to give him the ball and that was that. Match-winner by himself if the supply is right and with O'Sullivan pulling the strings further out the field, he's likely to finish as top scorer.

Needs to Be himself

14 KIERAN DONAGHY
8 Club Austin Stacks Age 24 Occupation Bank official Let's get it clear, he's still lethal given the right ball . . . something that's a must if Graham Canty does pick him up . . . but hasn't been given much of that this season. He's been taking the flack for Kerry's ploy of over-using him, although that particular tactic was madness when the Gooch is at his best outside him.

Needs to Look to break ball for the corner-forwards particularly Gooch

15 BRYAN SHEEHAN
8 Club St Mary's Age 22 Occupation Student We've heard about Mark Vaughan all through the summer.

Sheehan is the other free-taker in Ireland capable of putting them over from outside the 50 as he proved the last day. Got Kerry out of a huge hole in the quarter-final when he kicked two points after being introduced from the bench as well.

Needs toMake sure everything that's placed counts on the scoreboard MANAGER PAT O'SHEA 8 Hasn't made a championship mistake in his short career but knows well he'll be judged on All Ireland finals. Paidi won a couple. Jack won a couple.

Ultimately O'Shea will be expected to deliver something similar in the coming years, including his first All Ireland win today.

Total: 138.5/170 THE BENCH 8.5 Mike Frank (left) has a great record against Cork, Tommy Griffin will see action at some stage while Sean O'Sullivan and Darren O'Sullivan are good for a point or two late in the game. That's before we mention Declan Quill, who probably won't get a game, but who'd probably walk onto the Cork team. A bit light defensively.
