Sacrificing everything for the greater good

IN HIS column of 9 September, Michael Clifford gave a list of people who sacrificed everything for the greater good. The list included Jesus Christ, Joan of Arc, Padraig Pearse and Nelson Mandela. To this great list he then made the ludicrous addition of Michael O'Leary. He stated O'Leary isn't interested in lower cost bases in pursuit of profit. People are what he is interested in. He is, providing they fly Ryanair.

This couldn't be the same Michael O'Leary who boasted of opening his shop on Christmas Day to triple his profit or who reneged on the free travel offered to the lady who had to take him to court to have it reinstated.

Michael Clifford then states that O'Leary, this great socialist, declares that it is time to shout stop in the name of love for his fellow man. 'Shurely shum mishtake'. I re-read the column again and when I saw the name of Roy Keane as another person who sacrificed all for the greater good I realised the whole column was a joke.
