DAY six of the Listowel Festival was a quieter affair than the preceding five days but racecourse manager Brendan Daly expressed himself "more than happy" with the way the week panned out.
The highlight of the meeting for most people was Wednesday's Guinness Kerry National which was won by the Paddy Flood-ridden Ponmeoath, from the Eric McNamara stable.
Jessica Harrington took the training honours with five winners and several placings.
Badgerlaw crowned her remarkable week with a head success under Barry Geraghty in yesterday's featured Edmond Whelan Memorial Handicap Hurdle, after which the trainer paid tribute to her hardworking team for their efforts behind the scenes.
Badgerlaw also received a favourable mention, despite idling in the closing stages, and Harrington said : "He'll go chasing now and I hope he'll be the real thing. I only took in this race because the ground dried up and I couldn't get a school into him. I thought he was well-handicapped."
David Marnane was another trainer to enjoy a good Listowel and he saddled his second winner of the fixture when Maundy Money captured the Listowel Printing Works Handicap by two lengths in the hands of apprentice Amy Kathleen Parsons. The 10-1 winner is owned by the Push The Button Syndicate and Marnane, who also collected with Fancy Feathers on the opening day, said: "They're a real good bunch of local lads and I went to school with a couple of them in Rockwell College so this is a bonus. This horse has had some cracking runs and Amy gave him a great ride."
Jockey Davy Russell equalled Marnane's tally thanks to the comfortable nine length victory of Drunken Disorderly in the Guinness Surge Novice Chase.
