LESS PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT, IT SEEMS Padraig Harrington would be the first to tell you that too much practice can sometimes be more damaging than too little, so Tiger Woods's admission that he hasn't visited the range following a competitive round since the British Open at Carnoustie in July might provide a clue to his recent outstanding run of form.
With four victories from his last five events, plus the $10m bonus for winning the inaugural FedEx Cup, his season has featured seven PGA Tour wins in all including his 13th major title at the USPGA Championship at Southern Hills.
As for his prize money, that's just short of $11m from only 16 tournaments, and his stroke average is an unbelievable 67.8.
When asked why he had turned his back on the practice range, Woods replied: "I guess I didn't need to."
MONTY TO LEAVE FALDO TO HIS OWN DEVICES As if the appeal of the Seve Trophy at The Heritage hasn't already been reduced by Nick Faldo's decision not to award one of his wild card picks to an Irish player, there might also be a clash of egos as Faldo takes over the captaincy from Colin Montgomerie who has been in charge of the Britain and Ireland team for all four of the previous matches.
"It's Nick's first time as a team captain, and it'll be interesting to see how he does, " said Montgomerie. "I'm quite a dominating figure in the locker room, but I won't be offering advice unless he asks."
