HOW I'D BEAT THE PUMAS

MICK O'DWYER Wicklow football manager

There is class all over that side and they should know they are well capable of getting the four tries and qualifying. It's all about their mentality and their belief which seems to have been lacking and while they look tired it's all or nothing for them. I've seen so many teams turns things around in football over the years, that it makes me think they can do this.

NIALL QUINN Sunderland chairman

Trying to keep everything together is difficult enough without all the criticism being thrown their way. I know that from my playing days and I was there for a certain famous incident with Ireland. When I was young and started out with Arsenal I met Babs Keating after a game and he said to me always beware of the press man praising you, because he's only lining up your backside for a kick. There is only one answer to all this criticism. That's to turn it around on the pitch.

NOEL KING Irish women's soccer manager

At any time of crisis you revert back to what you know and look back at the positives. That may seem a long way off for the Irish but Eddie O'Sullivan has got to go back to the tactics and attitude of the Six Nations.

Confidence is clearly an issue but there's nothing he can do now about that and he must forget about winning and concentrate on getting individual things well. Then hope the result follows.

TRENT JOHNSON Ireland cricket captain

They are in a very different situation in comparison to us when we went to the World Cup.

We were expected to win nothing but did. They are the opposite. But there is one comparison I can make. We got thrashed by Australia but in the next game we came out and beat Bangladesh. That was all because we went away and got our heads right. We talked to players individually and the experienced players stepped up to the mark. The rugby side must get their big names to step up too if they are to overcome Argentina.

JOHN KIELY Waterford football manager

Whatever about the results, it's the performances that have really let everyone down, especially when it comes to the pack. They look like a group of players that are burned out, coming off a long, hard season. Eddie is under awful pressure but some managers have an ego and they don't like criticism and being proved wrong. But he's made huge mistakes . . . Malcolm O'Kelly and Ronan O'Gara being the major ones . . . and I know as a manager it won't be possible to turn things around so quickly.
