IRELAND'S RUGBY WORLD CUP MEMORIES
Compiled by Ciaran Cronin

NUMBER 4 . . . Trevor Brennan gets a hiding against Australia A bad afternoon for Ireland during the 1999 World Cup pool game against Australia at Lansdowne Road got progressively worse when Trevor Brennan found himself isolated on the ground with Toutai Kefu, David Wilson and Jeremy Paul as play continued up field. Naturally enough, the Barnhall Bruiser attempted to defend himself against the Australia trio but as Wilson and Paul held his arms, Kefu used him as a punch bag.

In all, Brennan was hit 11 times by the Wallaby number eight but remarkably, Australia got the penalty from the incident and the Irish second-row was hit with a 10day ban after the game by the citing commissioner. The visitors ended up winning the game 20-3 on a miserably wet and windy afternoon in Dublin.
