The United States had a slight edge during the morning foursomes matches at the Presidents Cup yesterday. The Americans, two points ahead of the International team after the second day, started smoothly on a crisp morning at Royal Montreal.
They were ahead in three of the five matches, all square in another, and behind in just one, although all matches were fairly close. Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk, badly beaten in Friday's fourballs, bounced back to take a two-up lead after seven holes against Ernie Els and Adam Scott. And the Americans led another match two-up, with Phil Mickelson and Woody Austin ahead of Stuart Appleby and Retief Goosen after eight holes.
South Africans Trevor Immelman and Rory Sabbatini provided the only International lead, one-up after nine holes against Steve Stricker and Hunter Mahan.
