FORTY theories have emerged about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann since she vanished 157 days ago. A Sunday Tribune analysis of the British media's coverage of the case of the four-year-old, who went missing from the Portuguese holiday resort of Praia da Luz, has revealed a wealth of theories about what supposedly happened.
Among them is that she was kidnapped by Portuguese gypsies, British paedophiles, a British tourist, a neighbour in the Algarve, or that she died accidentally and was dumped at sea. Searches for the missing child have spread as far as Morocco, Malta, Spain, Holland, Belgium and even Argentina. Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, are still officially listed as formal suspects in the case but, over five months since she was last seen, police seem no nearer to solving the mystery of what happened in the McCann holiday apartment on 3 May last.
