Gardai seek help in amnesia case

GARDAI yesterday appealed to taxi-drivers for help in identifying the mystery woman who turned up at Dublin's Store Street garda station last Sunday suffering from apparent amnesia. Gardai still have no idea who the woman is and the American and Canadian embassies have so far been unable to ascertain whether she is North American. The woman is currently in a psychiatric ward in the Mater Hospital, Dublin.

Woman arrested for assault on baby

A 30-year-old woman was arrested in Cork city yesterday in connection with an assault on an eight-month-old baby. The incident happened in Carrigaline on 15 August last. The woman was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and was being questioned at Togher garda station.

She is the second person to be questioned in relation to the assault.

Explosion victim dies from injuries

ONE OF the men caught up in last week's factory explosion in north Dublin died yesterday. Stephen O'Brien (23), from Rathmullen road in Drogheda, died in the Mater Hospital in the early hours of the morning. He sustained critical injuries following the explosion at Dunhill's confectionary plant in Finglas on Thursday morning. A second man remains in hospital.

Woman injured in Dublin house fire

A YOUNG woman was seriously injured after a fire broke out in an apartment block in Dublin city yesterday morning.

Up to 25 people had to be evacuated from the Castleforbes apartment block near North Wall Quay after a fire started in a ground-floor apartment at around 5.30am. A number of other apartments were damaged in the fire.

Dublin hops to the beat of Synergy

BIG-NAME indie bands will descend on the capital this week for the second Heineken Green Synergy Festival, with major performances, free DJ sets and screenings in various venues around the Village Quarter in Dublin.

Headline sets by Broken Social Scene, Alabama 3 (of Sopranos music fame), Asian Dub Foundation and Turin Brakes will be among the highlights of the festival, which runs from next Wednesday to Sunday.

PSNI question two on drugs haul

POLICE in the north were yesterday questioning two men after �20,000 worth of illegal drugs were discovered in a planned search of a house in Co Fermanagh. The men, aged 20 and 23, were arrested after officers raided a house at Fairview Avenue in Enniskillen. A quantity of cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis was seized during the search.
