INTERNATIONAL property development and investment group Ballymore is set to build the tallest residential block in Europe. The company has taken a 95% interest in the 60-storey Piccadilly Tower project, a 93,000sq m mixeduse development in the centre of Manchester. Construction on the building . . . adjacent to Piccadilly train station . . . will begin early next year. Along with the tower, the development, designed by Woods Bagot architects, will comprise two lower buildings.
The project was previously jointly owned by Merepark and M2Evolve which obtained detailed planning approval.
Merepark is exiting to concentrate on other schemes in the region while M2Evolve will retain a 5% interest.
Phase one of the Tower project will involve the construction of 430 residential units. The second development phase will see a further 267 residential units added and a luxury hotel.
"We place enormous emphasis on using state-ofthe-art architecture and technical excellence in order to consistently develop our commercial, residential and mixed-use properties to the highest possible standards, " says company chairman and chief executive, Sean Mulryan. "[The Tower] will further underline our position as a leading developer and trusted partner."
