CONTRARY to the experience of some recent art auctions, the Water Colour Society of Ireland's annual exhibition is proving lucrative for exhibiting artists, with buyers digging deep for more expensive works.
Over one-third of paintings sold during the first couple of days, with many red stickers adorning works costing 1,000 or more.
The Water Colour Society's annual exhibition is one of the largest in the country and is currently showing at the Concourse Arts Centre in Dun Laoghaire County Hall.
Exhibitors include many RHA members such as Desmond Carrick, James Nolan and Brett McEntagart, as well as leading artists Rachel Kerr, Neil Shawcross and Tom Ryan.
Highlight of this week is Wednesday's studio evening with watercolour demonstrations by exhibiting members at 7.30pm.
Tickets are 5 including wine.
Artists John Keating, James Flack, Jim Doolan and Oisinn Roche will demonstrate their technique. The President's Prize this year went to Lesley Fennell for 'Figure and Striped Sofa'. The exhibition is free and open to the public from 10am to 5pm until next Saturday 13 October, when it closes at 1pm.
