THE AA GUIDE TO EATING OUT
Oooh Adrian, you are awful.
It's strange that AA Gill, the scourge of restaurants everywhere and a fine travel writer to boot, has written such stupendously bad novels, namely Sap Rising and Star Crossed, the latter winning the Bad Sex Award for its cringeinducing prose. But he more than redeems himself in his restaurant columns, the best of which have been assembled in his new book, Table Talk: Sweet and Sour, Salt and Bitter.
Divided according to 'Appetite', 'Ingredients', 'Restaurants', 'Home' and 'Away'. As ever, he doesn't hold back. Here's his description of some individually baked cheddar cheeses and onion pies.
"As we cut them open, a viscous gruel of curdled liquid ran out. It was like lancing a boil. It wasn't cheese and I don't think it was onion. Perhaps the pies had been cooked in the dishwasher. They looked nicer than they tasted." Bon appetit.
