A WIKIPEDIA page describing FAI chief executive John Delaney as "the worst manager in the history of Irish football, " and saying he should be "hung, drawn and quartered" due to Ireland's poor performances, was removed last Friday due to vandalism, according to the website.
Wikipedia, the online user-edited encyclopedia, has now disabled Delaney's web page due to repeated tampering by enraged fans, who have slammed him as "incompetent" and claimed he was on the verge of being removed from the FAI. "He should be hung, drawn and quartered for Ireland's abysmal performance, " wrote one unknown editor. The page has now reverted to the original biographical details of Delaney and its editing function disabled for unregistered users.
Beleaguered team manager Steve Staunton's page was also modified after Ireland's 1-1 draw with Cyprus on Wednesday, with one fan echoing Eamon Dunphy and likening the manager's performance to that of a train driver trying to reach Cork. "Although none of the trains piloted by Staunton actually made it as far as Cork, Irish Rail claimed their service level was up 130% and announced a four-year plan to actually get a train to Cork, " it said.
