TRAINER Charlie Swan sent out 8-1 chance Jalmira to take the listed Navigation Stakes in the hands of Billy Lee at Cork yesterday. Swan was otherwise engaged at Cheltenham but the six-year-old's owners, the two member Green Dragon Syndicate were on hand to cheer her home. The syndicate comprises Jimmy O'Meara and Sean Dalton and the latter said, "She won the Cambridgeshire last month and was fourth in a Group 3 race at Gowran last time, and we always felt there was another big opt in her. She's just a bundle of fun."
Conor Harrison, a 19-yearold from Monasterevan, had a day to remember when notching up his first win in the saddle on the 11-2 favourite Marinebird in the first division of the Kanturk Handicap. His mount beat Tullyorior Glory by a short head, prompting the comment from her trainer Jarlath Fahey: "She deserved that because she's been running very consistently all year. She only cost 1,200 as a yearling at Goffs and she'll run again at Navan on Wednesday."
The second leg of the race was won by 14-1 chance Desert Ben, from the Peter Casey stable, who denied the hat-trick-seeking top-weight Danetime Lily by a short head in the hands of the trainer's son Oliver. Jim Bolger's good run of success continued thanks to Linsalata's four length win under Davy Moran in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden. Bolger's assistant John Hayes remarked "She was a little bit unlucky in the Birdcatcher at Naas last Sunday but justified that run today."
