Sadler's to outdo home favourite

THE Hacketts Bookmakers Irish Cesarewitch promises to be the highlight of this afternoon's fixture at the Curragh. Local hero Hardy Eustace, from the Dessie Hughes stable, warms up for the start of his winter campaign in the two-mile contest but unfortunately Beef Or Salmon and Al Eile, two other names more usually associated with the jumping game, are absentees.

Hardy Eustace, a dual winner of the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2004 and 2005, was fourth behind Sublimity in this year's event and has not run since finishing third in the ACCBank Champion Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival in April.

The 10-year-old is lightly weighted, with just 8st 4lb on his back and that is further offset by the 3lb claim of his rider Padraig Beggy.

Equipped with his customary blinkers, and racing on his favoured good ground, Hardy Eustace is sure to run a good race, as should the Noel Meade-trained Rosaker, but both horses are likely to enjoy their big pay days in the months ahead when they are fitter after their summer break.

It therefore makes more sense to look elsewhere for the winner and two horses that will have obvious appeal here are the solitary English raider Sadler's Kingdom and Sandymount Earl, from the in-form Jessica Harrington yard.

Sadler's Kingdom is trained by Richard Fahey and the three-year-old has progressed really well this term.

His four wins include success at the Galway Festival. However, Ronnie Wood's Sandymount Earl is the one fancied to come out on top.

Senor Benny has been a good servant to his trainer Kevin McDonogh and seems to be getting better with age.

Declan McDonogh's mount gets the vote over the Dandy Nicholls-trained Masta Plasta in the www. hacketts. ie Joe McGrath Handicap, while Savethisdanceforme, representing the Aidan O'Brien/ Seamus Heffernan partnership, should be capable of stepping up in grade in the listed Lanwades & Staffordstown Studs Stakes. All My Loving can complete a double for Ballydoyle in the listed Barathea Stud's Barathea Finale Stakes.

Meanwhile at Cork, the Philip Rothwell-trained Call Bewleys promises to be the star attraction in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Chase. Shane Jackson takes the reins today, while Davy Russell partners War Of The World for the same owners and trainer Mouse Morris.

Russell has a good chance of making his mark aboard Colm Murphy's Megans Joy in the four-runner INH Stallion Owners EBF Novice Hurdle after prevailing on her hurdling debut at Navan last time out.
