A 5.5-ACRE site zoned for commercial and residential development in the centre of Kildare town is for sale by public tender with an asking price of 25m.
The site, 500 metres from the town's main street, is owned by the local Vocational Educational Committee (VEC) and includes a secondary school, ancillary buildings and sports fields.
The site has 'Town Centre' zoning as laid out in the Naas town development plan 20052011, which allows for both commercial and residential development.
The school grounds are close to the new Naas town orbital road and the M7 and M9 intersections. The lands also enjoy extensive road frontage onto the Newbridge road stretching to over 200 metres. And there is additional road access via the Aras Chill Dara feeder road which will eventually link with the orbital road.
"This exceptional access makes the site all the more attractive to a developer or even a large chain store or retailer, " said a spokesperson for selling agent Nolan & Brophy auctioneers.
The site is just a stone's throw from Aras Chill Dara, the award-winning Kildare County Council headquarters and the four-star Osprey Hotel complex.
The school is relocating to a new, purpose-built education campus at Piper's Hill, Killashee in Naas.
Construction of the new school will commence early next year and a tender process for this development is currently under way. Tenders for the school site should be submitted by 11 December.
