ALTHOUGH considerably smaller than the Alps the High Tatras Mountains, which form a natural border between Slovakia and Poland and occupy an area of 750sq km, are classified as having an alpine landscape and are emerging as one of the new and lesser expensive skiing options for Irish tourists and investors.
The highest mountain massif of the Carpathian Mountains, rising from about 500 metres to over 2,600 metres at their highest peaks, they are of the same geological age as the Alps, the Rockies and the Tetons.
The Silver Resort is a new mixed use all year round holiday village based in northern Slovakia about 15km from Poprad airport between the resort towns of Tatranska Lomnica and Velka Lomnica. In addition to being surrounded by the National Park and enjoying panoramic views of the Tatras Mountains the resort has a 27 hole international golf course. A shuttle bus brings visitors the five minute drive to the ski lifts and a train stop at the gate of the resort is planned for the near future, which will allow even greater access to the slopes.
Plans are also in place for a hotel with 91 rooms and conference facilities. A sixth floor viewing tower will be the architectural centre-piece of the whole project and will offer panoramic views across the landscape and mountains.
In total there will be 368 apartments and 12 luxury villas and Silver Resort will be offered for sale through phases over a two year period and prices start from 58,590.
