Antique, Fine Art & Prestige Car show

THE Kildare Hotel and Country Club in Straffan, Co.

Kildare is renowned for holding the Ryder Cup and for being one of the top class resorts in the country.

However, at the end of the month it will play host to the K Club Antique Fine Art and Prestige Car Showcase.

The event, which runs from Saturday, October 27 to Monday, October 29, will feature 20 antique and art exhibitors from around the country.

The showcase organiser Robin O'Donnell wanted the event to be different from every other antique fair that has been held in Ireland and pulled out all of the stops to make this happen.

"I knew from the start that this event, in order to be the most prestigious and important event of its type ever held in Ireland, had to have only the best of everything so we forgot about quantity and dived in head first for quality."

The showcase will be run in connection with Charles Hurst Motors who will be displaying a selection of Ferrari, Maserati and Bentley cars. O'Donnell says that when organising the event, Charles Hurst Motors was a natural partner for the show.

"Our first choice was Charles Hurst Motors Belfast, being Ireland's main Bentley, Ferrari and Maserati dealers, with a client list second to none, " says O'Donnell. "Our dream was to get a partner with a similar but different profile to our audience, with a capacity and spending power to purchase all types of luxury items. We invited Hursts to come on board but we never expected the response we received from them. Not only did they decide to join us but they promised me 110 per cent commitment from the start."

O'Donnell adds that the merging of antiques and cars is attracting huge interest for the show.

"We are hoping for visitors in excess of 5,000 people. Our belief and hope is that these will be mostly high earning individuals, both buying for pleasure and investment. We hope that Charles Hurst Ltd will draw a new younger audience for us. We have been inundated with enquiries from the U.K. principally and also mainland Europe. Our advanced ticket sales on our ticket lines have been phenomenal."

One of the exhibitors at the K Club Fair will be Norman Allison Annamoe Antiques, which deals with a wide range of antique furniture and pictures.

Norman Allison himself is quite excited about participating in the fair.

"For me, it'll be the biggest event that I've been part of. I've done some smaller shows and they've been very successful, but the fair at the K Club will be of the highest calibre."

Norman Allison is very enthusiastic about one piece in his selection that he hopes will attract a lot of attention. "I have two photo albums from the family of Charles Stewart Parnell that are in good condition and chart the travels of the Parnell family."

Norman isn't just bringing photo albums to the K Club, he will also be displaying 38 pieces of furniture and 45 pictures. "There will be a mixed bag of everything that will suit all tastes. One piece of furniture that I am extremely happy with is an 18th Century card table that I hope will attract a lot of people."

"This fair is a good opportunity for all of us. I've done a lot of work this show and it'll be a great honour for me to participate."

Another interesting exhibitor at the fair is Marine Action Boats. The company, which is based in Birdhill, Co. Tipperary, offers everything that you could possibly need when boating.

Their services include sourcing out the right boat to meet your requirements, finding the market price if you're selling and 15offering a storage service.

Tadhg Foley, Managing Director of Marine Action Boats will be at the showcase himself and is looking forward to it. "We will be marketing our entire range of boats at the show and we will have some of our Crown-line models with us. Our products will suit the venue. The person who is interested in Charles Hurst cars will definitely go for our top of the range models.

It's a perfect match of product and venue that we think will be successful".

The prestigious Jorgensen Fine Art will also be in attendance at the showcase. The Dublin-based art gallery is enthusiastic about the opportunity that the showcase offers.

"This will be the first show that will feature more than just art. We're hoping that this showcase will attract a new type of audience so we will be bringing a broad selection of work from the gallery, " says Sile Connaughton-Deeny of the Jorgensen Fine Art Gallery.

Their area will include work from artists such as Maurice Canning Wilks, who specialised in Ulster landscapes and Charles Brady who painted everyday objects and gave a fresh perspective of them.
