Delay for cervical cancer vaccine
ISSUES surrounding the national roll-out of a vaccine that can prevent young girls and women from developing cervical cancer are still being considered by the Department of Health, meaning it is unlikely to become available free of charge until late 2008 or 2009. The UK announced on Friday that it is introducing a national vaccine service from September 2008. "Issues to be examined include the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of the vaccine for different age groups, " said health minister Mary Harney.
Documentary to premiere in Dublin
The multi-award winning documentary Occupation 101 will have its European premiere at Liberty Hall, Dublin on Tuesday week (6 November) at 7.30pm.
The event will be followed by a Q&A with the directors Sufyan and Abdallah Omeish. The film looks at the current and historical root causes of the IsraelPalestinian conflict and US involvement.
Charity cycle for missing persons
Irish cyclist Tosh Lavery is holding his annual Missing Miles cycle next Saturday from Dublin to Dundalk in aid of Missing in Ireland Support Service. "The object of this venture is to raise public awareness of missing persons and in turn we hope to meet with families of those who are missing in the area over the two days, " he said.
