AIB LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
CORK CONSTITUTION 18
BLACKROCK 5 Temple Hill
CORK CONSTITUTION opened their All Ireland League account with a 13point victory over Blackrock at Temple Hill yesterday.
The home side started well, but it was the visitors who first put points on the board in the ninth minute. Con were attacking deep in Blackrock territory when a bad pass from Daniel Nethery was intercepted by Fionn Carr, who showed great pace to run from inside his own 22 to touch down in the corner.
Con were on level terms by the 45th minute when a superb break and offload by Jeremy Manning to Tom Gleeson saw the Con winger go over for a try. The home side were 12-5 ahead eight minutes later when John Stringer blocked a Blackrock clearance on their 10 metre line. The ball bounced kindly into his hands and he ran in to score a try, which was converted by Manning.
Manning increased the lead in the 70th minute when he dropped a goal and he added three more points with a penalty in the final moments.
