Shining a neon light on scientific monkey business

Scientists have created the first genetically modified monkeys that can pass their new genetic attributes to their offspring, and in the process have created neon monkeys, adding a gene to the animals to allow them to glow under ultraviolet light. The ability of the monkeys to pass the gene on to their offspring should allow scientists to further study illnesses like Parkinson's and test new treatments. However, the research has drawn critic­ism from some quarters due to the close relation between monkeys and humans.
