AS the government this weekend began to consider the prospect of nationalising Anglo Irish Bank, the beleaguered institution forgot its troubles temporarily with a Christmas party at the Mansion House.
A rescue may be set in train if the bank's share price plummets to dangerous new levels in the coming days.
What a ridiculous comment. Staff at a lot of organisations work very hard and deserve a Christmas party. The reality is however, we are in tough times and the majority of parties have been cut to reduce costs in order to maximise the long term viability of companies. This just points to the arrogance of management in this company who have presided over a massive destruction in wealth.
The question remains whether the Oracle can turn his talents from profiting at the expense of others and the destruction of values to redirecting a flagging organization towards the road to recovery.
The Oracle who still remains an enigma even to friends and colleagues within the financial community is notoriously secretive and commentators can only guess at his amassed fortune. However, some have said that on any given day his fortunes in the investment market can be gauged by his mood which has been known to fluctuate more than the VIX index in which he places so much faith.
He is widely expected to adopt a slash and burn approach to costs upon taking office. A friend quoted the Oracle as stating “let them wash their own dishes” and “everyone has to take a pay cut – start with the cleaners, this is a recession”.
Ultimately, however, the Oracle may find the fortunes of Anglo are outside of his control.
Guys, we live in a third world dictatorship.
Who'll join me in the protests which need to take place to get rid of this government?
Arrogant, money-wasting politicians are running this country further into the ground. We are in the hands of a Taoiseach who was Minister for Finance during the "Celtic Scam". His two main cohorts don't seem to have a clue either. These people earn lots and lots of money and have good pensions for life regardless.
As for the Greens, they don't seem to have any backbone at all.
