When U2 announced its latest tour – which will arrive at Croke Park in the summer – it made great play about its unique 360 degree stage, which would offer unobstructed views to audiences surrounding the band members as they played on a circular stage.

A map of the Croke Park stage – on the Ticketmaster website – makes it clear that there will be no such innovation in Dublin. It's a much more traditional layout with the stage at one end of the pitch and the crowd to the front, left and right, but not behind. We were all misled, in other words, and although I'm sure the Croker concerts would have sold out anyway, given the great affection for U2 in its home country, the fact that they look like being a lesser spectacle than in other countries is a little disappointing.
