Nuala O'Faoláin's posthumous novel, Best Love, Rosie was launched by her good friend Marian Finucane in the Mansion House last Monday. Finucane told invited guests: "The first thing I want to give you is the good news. The book has gone straight into the bestsellers list in France – the reviews she got were really superb. It's a very peculiar thing, reading a book written by a friend after they have passed on. I know Nuala said she didn't believe in the afterlife but, in theory, scientists will tell you matter is indestructible. If you are a writer, your emotional matter is indestructible."
Fans of the late, much missed author and journalist can also look forward to a final volume from her next year. Her
publishers New Island are planning to compile her writing and journalism into one book.
Edwin Higel of New Island said: "It will comprise Nuala's journalism, literary criticism, and travel writing." The
publisher said he feels honoured to be involved having published O'Faoláin's first book in 1996. "The book's title was Are You Somebody? but in America it was called The Accidental Memoir Of A Dublin Woman. So many women identified with what she said. When it took off, we sold over a million copies worldwide. I think it's now in 13 languages."
