Toyosi Shitta-bey

Pádraic commented, on 4 April, 2010 at 7.10 pm: It is very interesting that a "sizable African community" lives in this particular "middle-class housing estate" while hundreds of thousands of Irish people once again prepare to emigrate in order to find employment.

We immediately need to reconsider our policy and tolerance of immigration: shut the doors before we see the rise of Parisian banlieues and Peckham ghettos in our country.

Colin commented, on 5 April, 2010 at 1.33 am: RIP Toyosi.... As for Pádraic's comment, I fear for his ignorance. I wonder if he even read the article or if he just saw the word black and saw it as an excuse to embark on a racist tirade? Seriously, what has this poor boy's murder got to do with immigration policy?

Ian commented, on 5 April, 2010 at 2.49 am: Pádraic repeats a common racist fallacy. How about if the thousands of Irish who have arrived on US shores return to Ireland because they displaced American workers.

irish 4 life commented, on 5 April, 2010 at 9.16 am: fully agree with padraic, i worked building tyrellstown, couple of years back and could only dream of living in one of them homes, i would need two jobs just to pay rent and yet these immigrants can live worry free and drive 10D bmw, merc 4x4 etc, while i get the bus and live in a council estate, unless theres is change this kind of thing will happen more and more. the goverment gives preferance to immigrants especially (blacks)in dublin, they all drive so they dont have to get the bus, get school places before irish kids, and rent allowance for private housing, we need change now im sick of feeling alienated in my own country, this might sound racist but its not, im just fed up of this country and our policys. if somethings not done soon we will see our own version of the kkk formed and who wants that??

Toyin commented, on 5 April , 2010 at 12.02 pm: I am 2 disgusted 2 even respond 2 Paidraig, Irish 4 life. Ireland is in d situation dy r now cos of ignorant eejits like dse 1s. I am so sorry dt a young life has bn snuffed out in dse manner but d system & government need 2 arise & do something. 2 many lives r bn lost both Irish & none Irish due 2 a decay in d system. Its time 2 stand up & b counted. D prob in d country is not brought on by immigrants its as a result of years of misconduct / lack of financial foresight & openness. God help us all

Krypt commented, on 7 April , 2010 at 9.52 a.m.: Toyosi went to the same secondary school as my little brother and me. I was at the school on saturday in solidarity with his family and friends. Im white, and irish, and have nothing in common with these racist bastards who have nothing better to do than spout hatred at a dead boy. There is only one world and one human race , and no room in it for the ignorant and bigoted

Dee1 commented, on 7 April, 2010 at 1.14pm: I am a Nigerian immigrant myself, lived here seven years with my three children. As a professional, I have not collected a single dime in social welfare, yet I drive a "fancy" car and live in my own house. So tell me Padraic & co: How does that make me a parasite? I have long feared for my family's safety, hence my decision not to buy a house in west Dublin.

Declan commented, on 7 April , 2010 at 2.11 pm: I'm Irish, happily married to a lovely Nigerian woman, two children. I appeal to the Nigerians not to think that the morons who try to justify a sick killing of a young boy are in any way representative of the Irish people.

Wendy commented, on 7 April, 2010 at 9.02 pm: I'm irish and i'm ashamed to say so because of SCUM like you lot i would take the Nigerians south africans etc over scum like you anyday... GO IN TO A HOLE AND DIE!!!! The black people in this country do a lot more work than u scumsbags have done in your whole life... REST IN PEACE TOYOSI GOD BLESS YOUXX

rachael commented, on 8 April, 2010 at 12.36 am: i am irish i was a friend of toyosis he was am amazing guy and a great footballer and u ignorant racist people make me so ashamed to be irish its the minority like use that are bringing all the irish people down complaining about people comeing in 2 our country wen there are more irish people livein ouside ireland than in it many countrys have opened there doors to us we can open our doors to them how wud u feel if every irish person who lives in another country was killed for being irish

Orla Mahony commented, on 8 April, 2010 at 1.38 am: Toyosi was one of my close friends... its 2010 not 1910? People need to realise we are all one race... The Human race... and the barriers of skin couler need to be broken

Declan commented, on 8 April, 2010 at 10.52 am: I fear there's too much bitterness emerging both ways in this blog. I appeal to Nigerians not to fall into the trap of meeting racism with racism. Most Irish are not racist, my family have been made welcome by our neighbours. Those who say Ireland has an open door policy haven't a clue. Under EU law, preference must be given to EU citizens for jobs. The vast majority of migrants who came during the boom years were from the EU – someone from Cracow has as much right to work in Dublin as someone from Cork.
