There's been uproar in the Dail, where Taoiseach Brian Cowen has been defending the changes to the over 70s medical card scheme he announced this morning. Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny called on the Taoiseach to reintroduce automatic entitlement and prevent tomorrow's protest march by pensioners on the streets of Dublin. Deputy Kenny also asked Mr Cowen to assure people that he will not be taking any other entitlements away from the elderly. The Taoiseach accused the Fine Gael leader of scaremongering: "You can come in here and call me callous; call me any names you like but as far as I'm concerned I will continue to provide leadership in the solution of problems not in your exaggeration of them, your misrepresentation of them and your attempt to scaremonger people."
