The Somali pirate captured by the US military last week has arrived in New York, where he is set to be put on trial by the US authorities. The teenager, who has been named as Abdhul Wali-i-Musi, was taken on board a US naval vessel earlier this month, shortly before US snipers shot and killed three of his colleagues during an operation to rescue an American hostage. The pirate gang had kidnapped captain Richard Phillips from his vessel off the Somali coast and were holding him hostage in a lifeboat. Wali-i-Musi will be the first person to be tried in the US on piracy charges in more than a century.
