The Russian authorities say they have arrested eight people in connection with the hijacking of the Arctic Sea last month. The Russian-owned cargo ship disappeared while en route from Finland to north Africa at the end of last month. It was located on Sunday near Cape Verde and the Russian Government says its navy has now taken control of the vessel without firing a shot. Eight people from Russia, Estonia and Latvia have been arrested. The exact circumstances surrounding what happened to the Arctic Sea are still unclear. The ship was carrying a load of timber, but there has been speculation that some other secret cargo may also have been on board. There have also been suggestions that the disappearance of the vessel may be linked to a commercial dispute.
